Adjusting the instrument to the patient
Preparing the patient:
•
Dilate the pupil of the patient eye.
•
Have the patient sit down and adjust the height of the table. Let the
patient rest with the chin on the chinrest and with the forehead
against the forehead strap. Turn knurled sleeve (

patient’s eye is level with the red eye-level marks on the uprights

Set the instrument base height to the center position (

Have the patient lean slightly forward so that forehead and chin are
firmly positioned.
•
Adjust your seat, if necessary.
Adjusting the VISUCAM C:
•
With the lens cap still attached, move the instrument base laterally to
align it to either left or right eye.
•
Now, remove the lens cap.
•
Have the patient look either with the non-examined eye to the
external fixation light or with the eye to be examined to the target of
the internal fixation device.
•
Turn lamp-brightness control (

, Fig. 2) on instrument base to adjust
the level of the observation light.
•
Move instrument base forth and back until the light ring is sharply
focused on the patient’s pupil (

Note
The position of the light ring in the pupil cannot be correctly
assessed in the survey window until the VISUCAM C is at the right
distance from the patient’s eye.
•
Turn the focusing control to focus onto the fundus.
•
Eliminate possibly visible reflections and shadows by fine adjustment
of the instrument base. For that, move the joystick for horizontal
adjustment or turn its control knob for vertical adjustment.

The survey window displaying the image of the control camera to
aid positioning (

, Fig. 12) can be reduced or enlarged by double-
clicks. After enlargement you can move the survey window and
customize its size.
