The Tiger Performance SBA comes standard with a 9.25” (23.5 cm) long
cylinder that when filled to its 3000 psi (207 BAR) rated pressure holds a volume
of air which if allowed to exit the cylinder will expand to a volume of 2.0 cubic
feet (56.6 Liters). This volume of air will give the user about 20 breaths at 20
feet (6 m) or shallower depth, from the cylinder before it’s empty. Three optional
cylinders are available from Tiger Performance that will work with the SBA.
They hold 1.5, 2.5 or 6 cu ft respectively, at 3000 psi.
There are two rows of important information stamped on the neck of
all DOT approved cylinders. At the top
left of the SBA cylinder stamping is
“DOT-3AL3000”. This means that the
cylinder is DOT approved aluminum with
a maximum working pressure of 3000
psi. The Tiger Performance SBA is
design to work safely and efficiently with
a 3000 psi cylinder.
NEVER
use the SBA
with anything but a 3000 psi cylinder.
(see Fig. 10 at left)
NEVER
fill the SBA
cylinder above 3000 psi (when it cools to
room temperture 75 F / 24 C)
12
At the bottom right of the stamping
is “07*09”. IN THIS EXAMPLE
this means that the cylinder
was made and tested in July of
2009. This date of course varies
from cylinder to cylinder. The
DOT (Department of Transport)
requires that cylinders have a test
stamp no more than 5 years old.
After 5 years, the cylinder must be
pressure tested and stamped with
the new test date. It’s sometimes
more practical to simply install a
new cylinder after 5 years.
