5. Install:
• Shift rod joint “1”
• Shift sensor “2”
• Shift rod “3”
TIP
• Install the shift rod joint and shift sensor in the
direction shown in the illustration.
• The allowable twist of the shift rod joint and
shift sensor is ±5°.
• Install the shift rod so that the side “b” faces up-
ward as shown in the illustration.
6. Adjust:
• Installed shift rod length
Refer to “ADJUSTING THE SHIFT PEDAL”
on page 4-129.
7. Adjust:
• Drive chain slack
Refer to “Adjusting the drive chain slack” on
page 3-19.

A drive chain that is too tight will overload
the engine and other vital parts, and one that
is too loose can skip and damage the swing-
arm or cause an accident. Therefore, keep
the drive chain slack within the specified lim-
its.

ADJUSTING THE SHIFT PEDAL
TIP
The shift pedal position is determined by the in-
stalled shift rod length.
1. Measure:
• Installed shift rod length “a”
Incorrect
→
Adjust.
2. Adjust:
• Installed shift rod length
a. Loosen both locknuts “1”.
b. Turn the shift rod until the specified in-
stalled shift rod length is obtained.
c. Tighten both locknuts.
