CHAIN DRIVE

9. Install:

• Drive chain sprocket cover

TIP

Be sure not to pinch the gear position switch 
lead when installing the drive sprocket cover.

10.Adjust:

• Drive chain slack

Refer to “ADJUSTING THE DRIVE CHAIN 
SLACK” on page 3-21.

NOTICE

ECA13550

A drive chain that is too tight will overload 
the engine and other vital parts, and one that 
is too loose can skip and damage the swing-
arm or cause an accident. Therefore, keep 
the drive chain slack within the specified lim-
its.

CLEANING AND LUBRICATING THE DRIVE 
CHAIN

1. Stand the vehicle on a level surface.

WARNING

Securely support the vehicle so that there is 
no danger of it falling over.

TIP

Place the vehicle on a maintenance stand so 
that the rear wheel is elevated.

2. Clean:

• Drive chain

a. Remove all deposits of dust, soil, mud, oil 

etc. during washing and dry it with air 
blow. Spray the chain cleaning solvent 
and wait 5 minutes to remove grease de-
position.

TIP

• Shake the cleaner well before use.
• During washing of vehicle, never use kero-

sene, petrol or any other solvent for cleaning.

b. Wipe the drive chain with a clean cloth.

NOTICE

This motorcycle has a drive chain with 
small rubber O-rings “1” between the drive 
chain side plates. Never use high-pressure 
water or air, steam, gasoline, certain sol-
vents (e.g., benzine), or a coarse brush to 
clean the drive chain. High-pressure meth-
ods could force dirt or water into the drive 
chain’s internals, and solvents will deterio-
rate the O-rings. A coarse brush can also 
damage the O-rings. Therefore, use only 
chain cleaning solvent to clean the drive 
chain.

3. Lubricate:

• Drive chain

a. Spray the lubricant inside the chain be-

tween inner/outer plates roller and bushes 
as shown in illustration.

b. After spraying wait for 15 minutes.
c. Wipe the drive chain with a clean cloth.
