2.7 I N S T A L L I N G A 6U FRONT PANEL K I T (optional)
XYCOM Model N u m b e r XVME-945 i s a n optional 6 U f r o n t panel k i t designed t o
replace t h e e x i s t i n g 3 U f r o n t p a n e l o n t h e X V M E - I 0 0 . T h e 6 U f r o n t p a n e l
facilitates t h e secure installation o f single-high modules i n those chassis w h i c h a r c
designed t o accommodate d o u b l e -high modules. T h e f o l l o w i n g i s a step-by-step
procedure f o r installing the 6 U f r o n t panel on an XVME-100 Module (refer to figure
2-8 f o r a graphic depiction o f the installation procedure).
1. D i s c o n n e c t the module f r o m the bus.
2. R e m o v e t h e screw and plastic collar assemblies (labeled # 6 and # 7 ) f r o m
the extreme t o p a n d b o t t o m o f t h e existing 3 U f r o n t panel ( # 11 ) , a n d
install t h e screw assemblies i n t h e i r corresponding locations o n t h e 6 U
front panel.
3. S l i d e the module identification plate (labeled # I 3 ) f r o m the handle (#9) on
the 3 U f r o n t panel. B y removing the screw/nut f o u n d inside the handle,
the e n t i r e h a n d l e assembly w i l l separate f r o m t h e 3 U f r o n t p a n e l .
Remove t h e counter-sunk screw (#8) t o separate t h e 3 U f r o n t panel f r o m
the printed circuit board (#12).
4. L i n e - u p the plastic support brackets on the printed c i r c u i t board w i t h the
corresponding holes i n t h e 6 U f r o n t panel (i.e. t h e holes a t t h e t o p a n d
top-center o f t h e panel). I n s t a l l t h e counter-sunk screw ( # 8 ) i n t h e hole
near t h e t o p center o f t h e 6 U panel, securing i t t o t h e l o w e r support
bracket on the printed circuit board.
5. I n s t a l l t h e handle assembly ( w h i c h was taken f r o m t h e 3 U panel) a t t h e
top o f t h e 6 U panel, using t h e screw a n d n u t previously attached inside
the handle. A f t e r securing the top handle, slide the module identification
plate i n place.
6. F i n a l l y , i n s t a l l t h e b o t t o m handle (i.c. t h e handle t h a t accompanies t h e
kit - labeled # 2 ) using the screw and n u t ( # 3 & # 5 ) provided. S l i d e the
X Y C O M V M E b u s I . D . p l a t e ( # 4 ) i n place o n t h e b o t t o m handle. T h e
module is now ready to be re-installed i n the backplane.
