For open area protection the fire alarm threshold (signal) that initiates an evacuation procedure via the Fire Alarm
Panel must not be set less sensitive than 0.625%/ft. The detector can send this signal via the Fire Alarm Panel
Output signal or the Pre-alarm output signal.
Through validation testing, Underwriters Laboratories Inc. has verified that VESDA ECO gas detectors, when
installed within the sample pipe network, present no significant effects on the smoke detection performance of
VESDA. The use of the ASPIRE calculation software is required to verify system design performance with all
devices included in the design.
FM
The VESDA VLC smoke detector model VLC-605 has been specifically designed to be used with any
compatible AutoPulse fire alarm control panels that are FM Approved. The interconnection is done via the
IDnet SLC connection found on the VLC-605 head termination board.
The VESDA VLC system components operate on 24 V DC either provided by the AutoPulse Fire Alarm
control panel or the VESDA VPS-100-US / VPS-300-US Power Supply equipped with two, four or six 12 V 12
Ah batteries.
The VLC-605 is FM Approved as an initiating device for Pre-action signaling. VLC-605 units powered by the
VPS-100/-300 are limited to a maximum rated current of 310 mA. For locations with a 24 V DC supply having
at least a 90 hour standby capacity (refineries, power plants, gas processing distribution networks, telephone
exchanges, etc.), the detector may be connected to this supply with permission of the authority having
jurisdiction.
The VESDA VLC detector head is suitable for indoor use only in ambient temperatures of 14° to 120°F (-10° to
49°C). The system is capable of sampling ambient air temperatures in the following refrigerated storage
applications: Coolers: 32° to 65°F (0° to 18°C), Chill rooms: 16° to 35°F (-9° to 2°C), Freezers or holding
rooms: -10° to 5°F (-23° to -15°C), and Sharp freezers: -35° to 0°F (-23° to -15°C). The lowest operating
temperature is -40° C.
The sampling piping network is designed by the latest edition of the ASPIRE computer program. The ASPIRE
computer program for Windows is designed to run on IBM-compatible personal computers (PC's).
European Installations
The product must use a power supply conforming to EN54: Part 4.
