Glossary
This glossary contains terms and definitions related to the operation and
use of IPS Gateway. For a complete list of terms and definitions related
to your DocuPrint printer, refer to the DocuSP System Guide .
Advanced Function
Presentation (AFP)
An IBM family of software products that enables you to place text and
images at any point on a page.
case-sensitive Treating lowercase and uppercase characters differently.
channel A commonly used network connectivity method consisting of a channel
card with a bus and tag cable. This communication system directly
connects workstations to each other, to file servers, and to peripherals.
code page An IBM translation table that maps an EBCDIC code point to a character
identifier.
Document Services Platform
(DocuSP)
A Xerox hardware/software interface between client systems and the
printer that accepts a document as a page description language file,
converts the file to a bitmap image, and sends the data through a
dedicated electrical connection to a DocuPrint printer.
dots per inch (dpi) The units of resolution of a resource or a page.
Ethernet A network standard consisting of a coaxial cable or twisted pair and
associated components for connecting workstations to each other, to file
servers, and to peripherals. This communication system enables
workstation users to share information and services.
Extended Binary-Coded
Decimal Interchange Code
(EBCDIC)
A method of encoding alphabetic and symbolic characters in a format for
electronic storage and data communication.
fault A condition that prevents proper processing of a print job and requires
user intervention.
First In/First Out (FIFO) The printing of jobs in the same order as which they are submitted.
font global identifier (FGID) A unique font identifier that is specified within the global resource
identifier (GRID) found in an IBM MCF-2 structured field.
Intelligent Printer Data
Stream (IPDS)
IBM’s System Application Architecture host-to-printer data stream for AFP
subsystems. It provides an interface to all-points-addressable printers.
Internet Protocol (IP)
address
Refers to an address of any host that uses the TCP/IP network protocol.
