3.8) Auto Mode
In Auto mode the device automatically changes the stimulation mode depending on
the depth of the block. When Auto mode is entered, the user must select whether the
device should detect the supra maximal current or not. After the SMC is detected (or if
the user chose to skip it), the device will automatically continue with TOF stimulation until
2 consecutive zero-out-of-four results are obtained; after which the device will start PTC
stimulation. PTC stimulation will continue until a single PTC count of 16 is obtained, upon
which the device will return to TOF stimulation.
The intervals between stimulations (TOF or PTC) will be determined by the relevant repeat
timer setting as set in the menu. An adhoc stimulation can be done by pressing the play
button at any time as long as the refractory timer for the current stimulation type has elapsed.
Depth-of-Block Zones:
The device will display one of six zones next to the mode indicator. These zones are
representative of the depth of the block and is based on the captured accelerometer
response. The repeat timer for the next stimulation is dependent on the current zone.
These zones are:
•
Recovered: A TOF ratio of larger than 90%.
•
Minimal: A TOF ratio between 40% and 90%.

•
Shallow: A TOF ratio less than 40%, but all pulses present.
•
Moderate: A TOF count of 1 to 3.
•
Deep: A PTC of one or more
•
Profound: A PTC of zero
Selecting Auto Mode:
•
Insert the NMBA cable.
•
Ensure that ‘Auto’ is one of the selected Active Modes in the NMT Settings menu (4.3).
•
Press the ‘Mode’ button until ‘Auto is shown on the display.
Stimulate/Stop:
•
The relative contraction strength caused by each stimulus is indicated graphically in
the diagnostic screen similar to the current stimulation type (SMC, TOF or PTC) it is in.
