Cramped or warm rooms
Protection against personal injury
Protective clothing
Protection against UV radiation
and burns
a) When working in confined or warm
situations,
non conductive protective
equipment such as welding gauntlets
made from leather or other non
conductive material should be used
to help insulate the user from contact
with the ground, walls or other
conductive objects.
b) When using inverter welders in high
electrical risk areas e.g. in smaller
areas with conductive items such as
pressure vessels, pipes or in warm
areas where you may sweat through
protective clothing, the open circuit
voltage must not exceed 70 V~(RMS
value). In this situation the welder can
be used with an open circuit voltage
below 48V~
a) If one-sided lifting cannot be avoided,
always lift the load while lunging and
with the upper body upright.
b) Avoid setting it down suddenly or
picking the load up again!
c) For lifting the load safely, use the
carrying handle.
• Wear appropriate personal protective
equipment and a head shield made of
heat resistant material.
• Always wear insulated welding
gauntlets (leather) on both hands
while welding.
The gauntlets should be
checked for signs of damage before use.
• A welder's apron can be worn to
prevent damage to clothing.
For
welding in difficult positions e.g.
overhead welding, a protective suit and
appropriate protective head wear should
be worn.
• A notice stating 'Caution: do not look at
the arc!' should be placed near the work
area.
• The workplace should always be secured
in such a way that bystanders are
protected.
• Only allow authorised and competant
people to use the welder.
• Do not work in confined spaces with
light coloured, glossy walls..
• Windows below head height should be
covered with a protective coating to
prevent UV radiation getting through or
reflecting from the glass.
• Any protective clothing or accessories
used should conform to the 'Personal
protective equipment' guidelines
(89/686/EWG).
Dangers of flying sparks
Flying sparks can cause serious burns.
For this reason pay special attention to
the following safety instructions:
-
Always wear a leather welding apron.
-
Always wear well insulated welding
gauntlets.
-
Always wear a protective head shield
made of heat resistant material.
-
Allow the trouser legs to fall over the
shoes.
-
Wear sturdy insulated safety boots.
Dangers of slag or molten metal
Slag is hard and brittle after solidification.
Using the chipping hammer on the
hardened slag can cause sharp pieces to
break off and cause eye injuries.
Always cover your eyes or wear suitable
protective goggles when using the
chipping hammer.
