Local Bus Failure Monitoring
The SMI master module can be configured, so that a local bus watchdog
monitors data transmission via the local bus.
The local bus watchdog is activated by default.
A local bus failure is diagnosed if local bus communication does not occur for 100
milliseconds.
For the response to a local bus failure, a delay time can be configured after which
the SMI master module automatically sets all SMI drives to the configured forced
position.
The delay time is 3 minutes by default.
The local bus failure is signaled via an LED (see section “Device
Description” > … > “Display Elements”).
In addition, the corresponding status bit is set in the status byte (see section
“Diagnostics” and section “Process Image” > … > “Status Byte”).

Controller Failure Monitoring
Failure of the programmable logic controller (PLC) is diagnosed if the signal level
in the corresponding bit of the extended control byte does not switch for 1
second.
For the response to a controller failure, a delay time can be configured after
which the SMI master module automatically sets all SMI drives to the configured
forced position.
The delay time is 3 minutes by default.
The controller failure is signaled via an LED (see section “Device
Description” > … > “Display Elements”).
In addition, the corresponding status bit is set in the status byte (see section
“Diagnostics” and section “Process Image” > … > “Status Byte”).

4.1.10 Power Failure Monitoring
If the field supply voltage falls below the value required for proper operation of
the SMI master module, the SMI power supply is switched off.
The SMI functions, digital input and digital output are then unusable.
The SMI master module remains available on the local bus.
The power failure is signaled via an LED (see section “Device Description” > … >
“Display Elements”).
In addition, the corresponding status bit is set in the status byte (see section
“Diagnostics” and section “Process Image” > … > “Status Byte”).
