The usB port provides two functions:

The usB port will not charge a
portable device when the unit
is turned OFF.

When a dVd is playing, the usB
port can be used for charging a
portable device, but it will be
limited to 1 Amp of charging
current.

When the unit is not in dVd
mode or usB mode, the usB
port can be used for charging
a portable device with up to
2 Amps of charging current.
