Fitting the heating cable and thermostat:
8. The thermostat must lie tight against the pipe and secured with PVC insulating tape.
Do not use belts. The thermostat must be fitted at the coldest end of the pipe. The
thermostat measures the temperature of the pipe and switches the heating cable on
or off as required.
9. Lay the heating cable against the pipe and fasten the heating cable to the pipe at max.
distance of 600 mm with PVC insulating tape.
10. In order to guarantee frost protection during extremely cold weather periods, or to
reduce energy consumption, the pipe and the heating cable should be insulated.
The pipe / heating cable can be insulated with fireproof mineral wool or foam insulation.
The thermostat too should be insulated with the same insulation as the pipe / heating
cable in order to ensure that the same temperature is maintained in all sections of
the pipe.
11. In the case of mineral wool or foam insulation, a max. insulated depth of 13 mm can
be fitted over the heating cable. Note that the mineral wool insulation can be dama
-
ged by moisture and so must be protected with a waterproof sheathing in order to
avoid moisture ingress. Foam insulation is not generally impaired by moisture.
5. Operation
1. The heating cable has an automatic thermostat, which switches on the heating cable
as soon as a temperature of ca. +3°C is detected, and switches it off again when a
temperature of ca. +12°C is detected.
2. The heating cable shall not be connected in the summer (unplug).
6. Maintenance and servicing
1. It is recommended to check the gutter heating cable before the onset of winter and
to inspect the heating cable for signs of damage and check that the power supply is
operating properly.
If the heating cable is undamaged and the power supply is functioning properly, the
connection plug of the heating cable can be plugged into the outlet.
2. Keep all gutters and downpipes free of flammable materials such as foliage, refuse,
litter etc.
