CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
The product does not require any maintenance and should never be disassembled for any
reason. Repair or maintenance work must be carried out by a specialist or a specialist shop.
Before cleaning, remove any rechargeable batteries that are inserted in the charger. Then
unplug the charger from the mains socket.
Clean the charger carefully, e.g. with a soft, dry, clean cloth. Dust can easily be removed with
the help of a clean, soft brush and a vacuum cleaner.
Never use aggressive cleaning agents or any chemicals at all for cleaning; these can lead not
only to discolouration, but can also damage the product.
DISPOSAL
a) General
Electronic devices are recyclable material and do not belong in the household
waste.
Please dispose of the device, when it is no longer of use, according to current
statutory requirements.
b) Normal and Rechargeable Batteries
As the end user, you are required by law (Battery Regulation) to return used batteries and
rechargeable batteries. Do not dispose of used batteries in the household waste!
Batteries/rechargeable batteries contain harmful materials and are labelled with the
symbol shown to indicate that disposal in the household waste is forbidden. The
symbols of the relevant heavy metals are: Cd=Cadmium, Hg=Mercury, Pb=Lead
(name written on the battery/rechargeable battery, e.g. under the rubbish bin symbol
on the left).
You can return your used batteries/rechargeable batteries free of charge at the of

cial col-
lection points in your community, in our stores, or at places where batteries or rechargeable
batteries are sold.
You thereby ful

l your statutory obligations and contribute to the protection of the environ-
ment.

• Please observe the correct polarity (plus/+ and minus/-) when inserting recharge-
able batteries into the charger.
• Do not charge/discharge rechargeable batteries that are still hot. Allow the battery
to cool down to room temperature before charging or discharging it.
• Never charge/discharge damaged, leaking or deformed batteries. This can result
in a
fi
re or explosion! Dispose of batteries that have become unusable in this way
in an environmentally friendly manner; do not place them in the charger.
• Charge the batteries about every 3 months; otherwise self-discharge can lead to a
so-called deep discharge, which causes the batteries to become unusable.
You should discharge and recharge NiMH batteries with low self-discharge at
least once a year.

OPERATION
Connection
• Plug the charger into a standard mains socket.
• The charger is now ready for operation.
Discharging the rechargeable battery
• The right battery slot “B” has a discharge function.
Discharging the battery before charging it is useful for NiCd batteries, since otherwise
the so-called memory effect can occur.
• Insert the 9 V block battery into battery slot “B”. Immediately afterwards the charger starts
the charging process; the LED above battery slot “B” lights up red.
• Brie

y press the “DISCHARGE” button. The yellow “DISCHARGE” LED lights up, and the
battery in battery slot “B” is discharged.
• After the discharge process is
fi
nished, the charging process starts automatically. The
“DISCHARGE” LED goes out and the LED above battery slot “B” lights up red.
Important!
If a rechargeable battery is inserted in battery slot “A” while a discharge process
occurs in slot “B”, the LED above slot “A”
fl
ashes red.
This means that no charging process occurs in slot “A” (pause mode).
Only when the discharge process in slot “B” has ended and the charging process
starts is the charging process also started in slot “A”.
If you need to charge a battery in slot “A” at the same time you discharge a battery
in slot “B”,
fi
rst insert both 9 V block batteries in the charger (both LEDs above
the charging slots light up red; charging process occurs). Then brie
fl
y press the
“DISCHARGE” button. The discharge process for slot “B” starts, while the charging
process for slot “A” continues.
Alternatively, you can press the “DISCHARGE” button twice (with a pause of 2-3
seconds between button pushes), so that the charger leaves the pause mode for
slot “A”.
Charging rechargeable batteries
• Insert a 9 V block battery into battery slot “A” or “B”. The charging process starts automati-
cally; the respective LED above the battery slot lights up red.
• After the charging process has ended, the LED above the respective battery slot turns
green. The battery can now be removed.
If the battery is left in the charger, the charger starts the so-called maintenance charg-
ing after the charging process. In maintenance charging, the battery is charged with a
very low charge current to offset the self-discharge.
TIPS AND NOTES
• Because of the design, the negative contact on 9 V block rechargeable batteries can wear
out with frequent use (plugging/ unplugging). This can lead to the battery not being recog-
nized when inserted in the charger or the charging/discharge process being interrupted.
In this case, it may help to bend the negative contact of the battery back into place.
• If the LED above battery slot “A”
fl
ashes red, this indicates the “pause mode”. On this point,
see the chapter “Operation” and there the section “Discharging battery”.
