Leakage detection fluids are
suitable for use with most
refrigerants, but the use of
chlorine-based cleaning agents
should be avoided because
chlorine can react with the
refrigerant and corrode the
copper piping. If there is a
suspicion of a leak, all open fire is
removed / extinguished. If
refrigerant leaks are found to
require soldering, all of the
refrigerant must be removed from
the system or insulated (by means
of shut-off valves) in a part of the
system that is remote from the
leak. Both before and during the
soldering process, oxygen-free
nitrogen (OFN) must be flushed
through the system.
12. Coolant discharging
When opening the cooling circuit
to perform repairs or for any
purpose, conventional
procedures must be used.
However, it is important that the
best method is followed, since
flammability must always be
considered. The following
procedure must be followed:
Remove the coolant;
Purify the circuit with inert gas;
Evacuate;
Purify again with inert gas;
Open the circuit by cutting or
welding.
The coolant gas must be
recovered in the correct recovery
cylinders. The system is flushed
with OFN to make the device safe.
It is possible that this process has
to be repeated several times. You
may not use compressed air or
oxygen for this task. Flushing
must be achieved by breaking the
vacuum in the system with OFN
and continuing to fill until the
operating pressure is reached,
then venting into the atmosphere
and finally evacuating. This
process must be repeated until
there is no more coolant in the
system. If the last OFN charge is
used, the system is vented to
atmospheric pressure to allow
work. This operation is of vital
importance if soldering activities
are to be carried out on the
pipework.
13.
Loading Coolant
procedures
In addition to the normal loading
procedures, the following safety
requirements must also be
followed.
Make sure there is no
contamination with different
coolants such as you use loading
equipment. Hoses or pipes must
be as short as possible in order to
minimize the amount of coolant
contained in them.
Cylinders must be kept upright.
Make sure the cooling system is
grounded before you fill the
system with coolant. Place a label
on the system when the charging
is complete (if this is not yet the
case).
Extreme care is required to
ensure that the cooling system is
not overfilled. The system must be
