Setting up of the freezer heads and refrigerating clamps
The refrigerating clamps are designed for pipes with an outer diameter of 54
mm / 2“.
Before going about any operation, ensure that the freezer tube shows no signs of alteration or
weaknesses.
Though the use of two heads on one same straight tube is required by the Siberia, a minimum distance
of 1 m between them (see drawing below) MUST be observed. The use of two heads side by side
(< 1 cm) presents no risk.
At the end of the operation, check the state of the tube's surface; a tube presenting
alterations or weaknesses could leak during unfreezing of the ice plug.
Virax accepts no liability for damages caused by an improper use of the Siberia, non- observance of
the safety instructions, or by use on a tube presenting alterations or weaknesses.
Special freezer heads are required in order to be able to freeze pipes of a smaller diameter.
•
Spread Virax heat-conducting paste (ref. 221069) generously on the contact surfaces between
the refrigerating clamps, the reducing inserts and the pipes in order to improve freezing speed.
Warning:
Optimal freezing will only be achieved through the use of Virax heat-conducting paste
•
Press the clamp together with the appropriate insert on the pipe to be frozen and tighten by means
of the fastening screw. The said screw must come out on the pipe and not on the freezer head.
Warning:
Only tighten the fastening screw by hand.
•
Remove excess heat-conducting paste.
Please note:
−
We recommend greasing the screw on a regular basis as this makes it easier
to release the clamps after the freezing process.
−
The two displays may show a temperature difference. This does not however
mean that the freezing process is affected.
This can be due to:
o
different temperatures of the pipes to be frozen,
o
different pipe diameters,
o
different contact surfaces of the refrigerating clamps on the
pipes,
o
random draughts.
