Instructions before starting the Woodchipper
n
Purge any air from the hydraulic system.
n
Locate the flow control valve. Push the lever forward to #10; this is fully open and will allow the
oil to flow easily through the valve.
Use this lever to increase or decrease the speed of the infeed roller. #10 is the fastest speed (75
ft./min.), and #1 is stop.
n
You can adjust the speed to whatever works best for you. It is essential to change the speed of
the infeed roller to match the capability of your tractor to chip material.
A tractor with less HP will require a slower infeed rate than a tractor with a large HP.
Running the material too fast can stall the tractor. The lever requires a little force to move.
This is normal so that it will stay in the position you adjust it and not change without some
effort.
n
The safety bar will activate the flow control valve, and it has three detent positions.
The center position is neutral.
Pull back on the safety bar toward the hopper opening to engage the feed rollers, and push
forward on the lever to reverse the feed rollers. At this time, move the safety bar so that the
valve is in the center position.
n
Start your tractor’s engine. While idle, engage the power take-off (PTO) of your tractor. Ensure
that you are wearing protective safety gear and that all bystanders are safely out of the way.
n
Slowly increase the engine speed of your tractor until the PTO speed reaches 540 RPM.
Usually, a mark on your tractor’s tachometer will indicate the necessary engine speed to
achieve the required PTO speed.
n
Run the woodchipper with the safety bar in ‘Neutral’ so that the flow control valve is in the
center for 2-3 minutes.
n
Move the lever into the remaining positions, and run it for 2-3 minutes each. When you notice
that the feed rollers change direction when the safety bar is pushed forward or pulled
backward, the system is purged.
