Front Brake Fluid Level
Review Brake Fluid Precautions on
page 168.
1. Set vehicle upright on a level surface and turn
handlebars until top of reservoir is level.
2. View the fluid level through the sight glass.
3. If level is low, check brake pads for wear
(page 96). If pads are not worn past the service
limit, inspect the brake system for leaks.
4. To add fluid, remove the three reservoir cover
screws, cover, and diaphragm.
5. Add DOT 4 Brake Fluid from a sealed container
to the proper level. Reinstall the cover and
torque screws to 25 lb-in. (3 Nm). Wipe cap
area clean to remove any brake fluid.
6. Check for signs of brake fluid leaks around
hoses, fittings, reservoir, and brake calipers.
Check for deterioration of hoses.
