  Installation

XX028-06-00 Rev 1002 Surveyor4 Fixed-Position Camera Dome

Mounting the Unit

The Surveyor4 is intended for in-ceiling installation. It can be installed in either a dropped ceiling or a hard
ceiling. Installation is done with a 4 x 4 electrical box, which is included. All mounting hardware is provided.

The ceiling material must provide suitable strength to support the weight of the Surveyor4 dome (3.0 lb,
1.4 kg). Be sure the area around the selected location is clear of obstacles (such as steel beams, headers,
pipes, electrical wiring, etc.) that would interfere with mounting. Video and power cables must be routed to the
location. Refer to Coaxial Cable Recommendation in the reference section.

1.  Cut a 4.37 x 4.12 in. (111 x 105 mm) hole in the ceiling at the desired location. Refer to Figure 1 for

mounting dimensions. Remove the tile from a dropped ceiling if necessary. Make sure all necessary cables
are routed to the location.

2.  The electrical box has several knockout holes. Choose the convenient hole(s) for the cabling requirements

and route the cables through these hole(s).

3.  Compress the mounting bracket flush to the electrical box and insert the box into the hole in the ceiling. The

right-angle brackets on the bottom of the electrical box will be outside the hole. Refer to Figure 2.

4.  Tighten the screws in the top of the electrical box. This expands the bracket that is on the box and

squeezes the box into the ceiling for a secure fit. Refer to Figure 2.

5.  Remove the nut from the camera/lens assembly and insert the screw on the assembly through the hole in

the camera mounting bracket. Secure the assembly with the previously removed self-locking nut. Refer to
Figure 3. To ensure that the camera view is correct, the camera/lens assembly must be installed correctly
so that the markings on the camera PCB read correctly, left to right, and the large notch on the bracket is at
the top. On the color camera, an arrow references up. Refer to Figure 4. For monochrome cameras, the DIP
switch is in the bottom left of the board. Refer to Figure 6.

6.  Connect the mini-connector on the cable from the enclosure to the mating connector on the printed circuit

board on the camera. Refer to Figure 3.
