Chapter 1
Introduction
The information in this manual covers the installation and operation of the Kollector® series of Hybrid Network
Digital Video Recorders. This system should only be installed by a qualified technician using common hand
tools and approved materials in accordance with the National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA 70, state and local
wiring codes.
The Kollectors are intelligent and rugged digital video recorders (DVRs). They are state-of-the-art, Windows®-
based computers in an attractive industrial steel case. The Kollectors are available in two families, the
Kollector Force, a 3 RU unit, and the Kollector Strike, a 1 RU unit; the Kollector Strike is also available in a
“basic” version that has less hard drive capacity and cannot be used with an external VN-SAN RAID device.
These Kollectors are sold in prepackaged configurations, with choices of video (frame per second) rates and
hard drive sizes, and uses either an Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU or Intel® Core i3-540 CPU platform. All
versions run the same Vicon ViconNet® software application. For software information, refer to the Kollector
Software manual. Kollectors can be networked with all models of Kollectors and ViconNet Workstations to
create a complete system.
The Kollectors meet requirements for an FCC Class A computing device and CE.
Vicon requires the use of line conditioners, voltage regulators and uninterruptible power supply (UPS)
systems in the electrical power service.
NOTE: Read all instructions before beginning the installation.
