Checking the Repeater Uplink (Input) Frequency
It often is helpful to be able to check the uplink (input)
frequency of a repeater, to see if the calling station is within
direct (“Simplex”) range.
To do this, just press and hold the
key for 2 seconds.
You’ll notice that the display has shifted to the repeater
uplink frequency. Press the
key again to cause opera-
tion to revert to normal monitoring of the repeater down-
link (output) frequency.
CTCSS Operation
Many repeater systems require that a very-low-frequency
audio tone be superimposed on your FM carrier in order
to activate the repeater. This helps prevent false activation
of the repeater by radar or spurious signals from other trans-
mitters. This tone system, called “CTCSS” (Continuous
Tone Coded Squelch System), is included in your
VXA-
700
, and is very easy to activate.
The CTCSS setup involves two actions: setting the
Tone
Mode
and then setting of the
Tone Frequency
. These ac-
tions are set up by using the
and
keys, or Menu
Items (
SQL Type
) and
