Using the Volume Configuration Wizard

A robot is considered to have more than one type of drive if the media written in any
one drive cannot be read and written in every other drive. This includes drives that
are different versions of the same family of drives. For example, a robot with a
Quantum DLT7000 drive and a Quantum DLT8000 drive is considered to have
different drive types.

Optical robots and optical standalone drives.

RSM robots on Windows device hosts.
To configure volumes for devices that are not supported by this wizard, see “Adding
Volumes Using a Robot Inventory Update” on page 119 or “Adding Volumes Using the
Actions Menu” on page 119.
What To Expect In the Volume Configuration Wizard
The following table shows the screens displayed by the wizard and what to expect in
each:

With this wizard you can

Inventory the volumes in a robotic library.

Create new volumes for use in standalone drives.
Select Device
You select one of the following:

The robot that you want to inventory.
◆
The type of standalone drive where you want to configure
volumes.
Robots that have more than one type of drive are not supported.
In some cases the wizard is unable to determine if more than one
type of drive exists in the robot. In this case, you must specify
whether or not the robot has multiple drive types.

You start the inventory which updates the Media Manager
volume database.

You can view the results of the inventory.
