SECTION
13A. Attaching Upper Nest Pivots to Upper Nest: See Figure 13A
Be sure the flanges on the Upper Pivot are positioned as specified in Step 11, with the
vertical flange toward the cab. Power the hoist upward so the Upper Pivots make
contact with the Upper Nest. The knuckle of the hoist scissors should be pushed (with
a bottle jack or a 2 x 4) upward as far as possible to miss the Axle/Rear End Housing.
Be sure the body is not lifted by pushing up the knuckle of the scissors. If required, shim
between the Lower Arm and the Base Plate Assembly to keep the scissors knuckle
from being too low. Check to see if the Upper Pivots are still against the Upper Nest
- If not, then activate hoist up slowly until Upper Pivots make contact with the Upper nest.
check to see if the body is still square with cab.
WARNING: Cover the Fuel tank with water soaked towels or non-flammable material before
welding the Upper Nest Pivots.
From under the truck, weld the Upper Nest Pivots to the Upper Nest with 1/4" fillet welds
2" long two places on each Upper Pivot. Push the collar on the upper shaft against the
Upper Pivot (1 per pivot). Weld the inside edge of the collars to the upper pivot shaft.
Raise the hoist and safely prop the body in the up position. Complete welding of the
Upper Pivots to the Upper Nest - 1/4" continuous fillet weld all around. Add 1-1/2"
channel forward (toward cab) of LEFT Upper Pivot - weld to Upper Nest and Upper
Pivot. Be sure LEFT Pivot clears - does not hit - the fuel tank or fuel filler.
13B. Fasten the spare tire winch extension pipe to the winch. Slide the bracket (1/8" plate
1-1/2" x 2" with 7/8" dia. hole) over the end of the winch extension pipe. Put the original
plastic grommet for the winch extension pipe in the original location in the rear of the
body to the right side of the license plate. Remove the body prop and stand clear of the
body. Lower the body. Center the end of the extension pipe with the plastic grommet
at the rear of the truck. From under the truck, weld the bracket to the cross member as
shown in Figure 13B above.
