2.4.3 Working with the machine
2.4.3.1 Travel Speed Selection
Change the speed of travel or engage the reverse speed only when the machine is fully stopped and with the
travel clutch disengaged!
For the drum mowers a rule applies, that in case of very tall vegetation, however not very dense, it is better to use higher speeds of
travel. The mown vegetation leaves the mowing drum better and the stubble field is uniform, free of un-mown spots. Use speeds in the
middle of the scale on the speed control lever – see figure
Fig.
on page
Use lower speeds in very dense or flattened vegetation, or in vegetation with a high share of thick leave grass. Select lower speeds also
when mowing in places with small handling space, e.g. in orchards, near fences or enclosures etc.
You can use the highest speeds only to mow very thin and low vegetation with thin leaved grass and with attached seat
AV-650
.
2.4.3.2 Adaptor Drive Clutch Engagement
The controls are explained in the user's manual of the
RAPTOR Hydro
multifunctional carrier.
Start the brush cutter adaptor by pressing the control lever of the adaptor's drive clutch
2
– see figure
Fig.
on page
Never lift it above the ground when starting the cutting drum! It increases the mass which has to turn and it puts
the clutch and engine under excessive load.
If you start the mowing drum after it stopped due to a large volume of the mown material, always reverse, so the
mowing drum is not braked by flattened mown vegetation.
1.
Press the lever continuously, at first to app. ¼ of the lever's step. The clutch will start to engage, the engine revs will decrease
and the mowing drum will start to turn.
The starting of the clutch and the mowing drum can be accompanied by "whining" sounds, typical for slipping disc
clutches. This is normal and it doesn't affect the life of the clutch and it cannot be the reason for a complaint.
2.
When the engine speed increases, the clutch engages. Now you can continuously move the lever all the way to the handle.
The control lever must be always entirely pressed towards the handle; otherwise the clutch slip may occur.
Whenever the clutch starts slipping, release the clutch control lever as fast as possible. You will prevent
increased thermal loading of the clutch, which can be accompanied by odour, typical for thermal loading of clutch
discs or brake pads. Due to the used type of lining, this phenomenon is not the reason for the complaint.
If the drum doesn't start immediately, stop engaging the clutch at once. The cause can be (excluding mechanical defects):
The mown material accumulated in the space beneath the plastic cover.
Long sturdy fibres from the vegetation (weeds such as bindweed etc.) or some foreign element (string, wire etc.) wound on the
mowing drum cover.
It is prohibited to remove the above mentioned causes, preventing the fast and smooth engagement of the
clutch, by setting the tool in motion using the controlled clutch slip. First, you should empty the area of the work
tool and only after that continue working.
2.4.3.3 Attachment Drive Clutch Disengagement
Move your hand off the control lever
2
(see figure
Fig.
) and the lever will automatically return to the default position,
where it will be fixed secured by the safety lock against unwanted and unexpected initiation of the drive
6
. The brake integrated within the
clutch will brake the drive of the attached tool. The time needed to brake the tool depends on the type of the adapter and on the wear of
the brake.
Do not hold or slow down the lever during its movement back to the default position. Always release the lever
quickly so that no slippage of the clutch plate and brake occurs.
The slippage always causes heating of the clutch lining, which negatively affects the service life of the clutch plate and
the axial bearing of the clutch. At the same time, the brake is exposed to excessive thermal stress and gets worn more
quickly.
2.4.3.4 Growth Cutting Method
The growth must be free of solid items (such as stones, wires, loose debris, etc.). These items could be thrown out or could
damage the machine.
If they cannot be removed, avoid such spots.
The machine has great passing capacity in terrain. Hold the handlebars firmly to maintain straight direction.
Proceed with caution when walking behind the machine.
When mowing on slopes, it is best to ride along the slope contour lines. Only on very steep slopes drive straight
against the slope.
Observe the safe slope passage see
