In order to cut and engrave with precision the laser beam in the laser engraving system
is focused to a small spot by the focus lens. There are two ways in which to focus the
laser beam. The first is to use the focus tool and the other is to measure the thickness
of the engraving material and enter in that thickness into the control panel on the laser
system.
To access the motorized Z-axis control (engraving table adjustment), first turn on the
laser system. After the laser system has completed its homing routine, press the
“SETUP” key on the MOTION CONTROL panel. The following display will appear:
NOTE
: The Z-axis controls are only accessible when the display is showing the Main
Menu. If the Main Menu is not displayed, repeatedly press the “ESCAPE” key until it
does.
To use the focus tool method of adjustment, first move the motion system using the
arrow keys on the MOTION CONTROL panel until the focus lens holder assembly is
positioned over the plaque.
Position the cursor next to the line that reads “OBJ. HEIGHT” by using the up or down
arrow keys located to the right of the LCD display. Press the “SELECT” key to move
the cursor over to the right. This positions the cursor over the tenths digit and allows Z-
axis movement in those increments in either an up or down direction by using the arrow
keys. Pressing “SELECT” again will move the cursor over to the hundredths and then
again to the thousandths level of adjustment.
Position the engraving table up or down until the base of the focusing tool can be placed
on the top surface of the material to be processed and the flat of the focusing tool can
be placed flat against the lens holder as in the diagram below:
