Base Station Synchronization

Synchronization and the logical structuring of the base stations in clusters are
prerequisites for the functioning of the multicell system, the radio connection
between base stations and mobile phones and the handover. To carry out the
synchronisation you will need the plan of the clusters with the synchronisation
level for each base station.

Base stations can be synchronised "over the air", meaning that they are
synchronised via DECT.If the DECT connection between specific base stations
seems to be not reliable enough, synchronisation can also take place via LAN.

Synchronization planning

Base stations that combine to form a DECT wireless network must synchronize
with one another to ensure a smooth transition of the handsets from cell to cell
(handover). No handover is possible between cells that are not synchronized.

They are synchronized via what is known as an air interface, i.e. via the DECT
wireless network or via LAN. In the case of DECT synchronization, the signal
strength between neighbouring base stations must be sufficient for
synchronization.

NOTE:

Synchronization always refers to a cluster. In case you set up several

clusters that are not synchronized with one another, there will be no possibility of
a handover between them.

Sync master/slave

: The synchronization within a cluster takes place in a master/

slave procedure.

This means that one base station (sync master) defines the synchronization cycle
for one or more other base stations (sync slaves). You have to set up a
synchronization hierarchy comprising all base stations of a cluster.

Sync level:

During configuration, assign one level in the synchronization

hierarchy (sync level) to each base station. Sync level 1 is the highest level; this
is the level of the sync master and appears only once in each cluster. A base
station always synchronizes itself with a base station that has a better sync level.
If it sees several base stations with a better sync level, it synchronizes itself with
the base station that has the strongest signal. If it does not see any base station
with a higher sync level, it cannot synchronize.

LAN master/slave

: If the DECT connection between two base station seems to

be not reliable enough to permanently guarantee a stable DECT over the air
synchronization and a trouble-free handover, you can determine, that
