8.0   Troubleshooting

The   following   table   identifies   some   of   the   more   common   observations,   possible   causes   and
troubleshooting   techniques   that   can   be   applied   as   a   remedy.

Troubleshooting

1

The   sprinkler
doesn’t   rotate   or
rotates   very   slowly.

Sprinkler   doesn’t
rotate   at   all.

De-‐pressurized
piping   system
downstream   of   the
valve   before
attempting   the   last
two   possible   root
causes

Dirt   or   sediment   has
clogged   the   piston
drive   area   or   speed
rotation   filter

The   speed   control
filter   is   clogged.

The   piston   drive
area   is   filled   with
sediment   or   piston
drive   needs
replacement.

Clean   the   piston   drive   area   by
removing   and   flushing   with   clean
water.

Open   the   speed   rotation   knob   to
fully   open   during   sprinkler
operation   to   see   if   any
improvement   can   be   obtained.      If
not,   remove   and   clean   the   speed
rotation   filter.

Verify   the   speed   rotation   knob   is
fully   opened   to   the   clockwise
position.

Clean   the   piston   drive   area   by
removing   and   flushing   with   clean
water.         If   problem   persists,
remove   and   replace   the   piston
drive.

2

The   M-‐160   is   not
reaching   the
expected   radius

The   main   or   lower
nozzle   is   clogged
with   debris.

The   operating
pressure   is
inadequate   for   the
nozzle   size   installed

Raise   the   cover   of   the   M-‐160   and
locate   the   “kick-‐stand”   to   hold   the
sprinkler   in   the   pop-‐up   position.
Remove   and   inspect   both   main
and   lower   nozzles.      Clear   any
accumulated   debris   and   re-‐install.

Using   a   Pitot   tube   while   the
sprinkler   head   is   operating
measure   the   dynamic   pressure.
Compare   this   against   the   prepared
plans   and   delivery   or   output
pressure   of   the   pump   station.

Confirm   the   isolation   valve   is   fully
opened
