9. THE DISCS
9.1. The disc unit assembly
Every disc is mounted on a disc hub, which contains 2 taper roller bearings and seals inside the
grease chamber. The disc hub is welded to the disc leg. This leg is mounted to the MULTIDISC
frame by means of a suspension composed of 4 rubbers.
9.2. Greasing the disc hubs
It is important that the disc hubs are greased frequently and with good quality grease. Use the
following table for choosing the grease type of the disc hubs:
Recommended
Satisfactory
Texaco Starplex EP 2
Texaco Multifak EP 2
BP Energrease LC 2
BP Energrease LS-EP 2
Mobilgrease HP 2
Mobilgrease MP2
Shell Retinax LX 2
Shell Retinax EP 2
Total Multis Complex EP 2
Total Multis EP 2
Table 2: Grease types for the disc hubs
If greasing with one of the satisfactory greases, the greasing interval is 50 hours. If greasing with
one of the recommended greases, this interval may be extended to 70 hours.
Attention! Make sure that the above greasing intervals are never exceeded! This will cause
irreparable damage to the hubs and bearings.
The Multidisc hubs are fitted with seals that are able to cope with slight overgreasing. Whenever
too much grease is inside the hub, the seal will open and let the surplus out. It is recommended to
turn the disc while greasing to aid this process. Doing this also helps the grease spread to all
corners of the chamber.
