The Tulikivi Green W10 water-heating system consists of a dou-
ble-walled Tulikivi fireplace and a heat exchanger package spe-
cifically designed for it. Water circulates in the heat exchanger
and is heated by the fireplace. The hot water is piped to a water
tank, where it is then used for heating the home or as hot wa-
ter

. The instructions for heating the fireplace us-
ing wood are included in the Tulikivi fireplace operating manual.
Do not close the damper and air intake vents too soon, as this
could lead to the accumulation of dangerous carbon mon-
oxide! The fireplace is not designed for burning rubbish or
other waste, and you should never use liquid fuel, even when
lighting the fire.
Using the Tulikivi Green W10 system
general
To heat the Tulikivi Green W10 fireplace, follow the instruc-
tions given in the fireplace operating manual. The interval
before the fireplace may be heated again can be shorter than
for a fireplace without a heat exchanger, because some of the
heat in the stone is transferred to the water system via the
heat exchanger. At the start of the heating season, when the
need for home heating is still modest, the fireplace can be
used once a day. In colder weather, when the heating need is
greatest, the fireplace can be heated twice a day.
Heat energy transfer from fireplace to water over a two-
day period. A fireplace equipped with a heat exchanger can
be heated every 12 hours to provide continuous heating, thus
maximising the benefit of using renewable wood energy.
Using yoUr new FirePlace
Advice on curing and initial use of your fireplace is given in
the Tulikivi fireplace operating manual. Please follow the in-
structions provided. The first few times you use your fire-
place, you should burn only wood instead of pellets. The cur-
ing of the fireplace can be done when exchanger is not filled
with water. However, It is recommended that whenever you
light the fire you also fill the pipe circuit of fireplace with wa-
ter and ensure that the pump and the heat exchanger’s water
circulation are operating properly on the basis of the water
temperature in the fireplace hot water pipe.
Your fireplace is not designed for burning garbage or waste.
Never use liquid fuels, even when lighting your fireplace! Do
not burn chipboard, varnished or treated wood, paper or
waste in the fireplace.
First Use oF FirePlace
Follow the fireplace operating instructions. The first few
times that you use the fireplace, check the temperature
of the fireplace water exit pipes. No later than about three
hours after heating the fireplace in accordance with the op-
erating manual instructions, the hot water pipe from the
fireplace to the water tank should be hotter than the cold
water pipe from the water tank back to the fireplace. If this
is not the case, check that the pump is working and that the
valves in the system are open. You should also check that
there is no air in the fireplace pipe system. Any air present
in the system should be vented as necessary. If the cause of
the problem cannot be found, contact your Tulikivi expert
or HPAC installer.
normal Use oF FirePlace
Once the fireplace has been cured and has been used a few
times, you may start to operate it normally. When burning
wood in the Tulikivi Green W10 fireplace you should follow
the fireplace operating instructions and use the quantities
specified in the instructions.
After normal heating of the fireplace (i.e. after the combus-
tion process has finished and the embers have died down),
close the air control (see fireplace operating instructions)
and let the fireplace cool for 8-24 hours before using it again.
In cold weather when your heating need is greatest, leave
the fireplace to cool sufficiently, i.e. for 8-10 hours, and then
light it again as per the operating instructions. The heat en-
ergy available for hot water and home heating will then be
as constant as possible throughout the day.
Never burn more than the recommended amount of logs at any
one time, as this will lead to overheating and could damage the
fireplace. Let the fireplace cool down for at least 8-10 hours be-
fore using it again! If you intend to use pellets in the fireplace, read
the operating instructions for the P10 pellet system. .
Troubleshooting
If the pump is not operating when you use the fireplace,
check the operation of the pressure relief valve and expan-
sion vessel. After any power cut, the fireplace pipe circuit
must be refilled and bled again if necessary.
Always remember to check the pressure in the fireplace pipe
system so that any heating system problems can be discov-
ered in sufficient time. The heating system will always have
a pressure relief valve, which is normally found on the hot
water tank. If the fireplace is connected to a separate heat
absorber coil inside the water tank, the fireplace pipe system
must have its own pressure relief valve and expansion tank.
At least twice a year, you should check that the pressure
relief valve is working properly, because a defective valve
can lead to a dangerous situation. To check the valve, trig-
ger it by turning the control anticlockwise, which will allow
water to flow through the valve’s exit pipe. If this does not
happen, the valve is defective and must be replaced. Don’t
leave the valve open too long, or too much water will flow
out (half a litre is enough). You can check the valve yourself,
without needing to call in an expert. However, if the valve
needs replacing, we recommend this is done by a qualified
professional.
