The two biggest causes of connection problems are cabling and mismatched
serial port parameters. First, double check your cabling. The cable must
connect the transmit signal on the Serial Server to the receive signal on the
device, and connect the receive signal on the Serial server to the transmit
signal on the device. Also verify that the ground leads are connected
together, and if you are using modem controls, also verify that they are
correctly connected. (RTS goes to CTS and DTR goes to DSR).
Next, verify that the settings of the Serial Server's port exactly matches the
settings of the device's serial port. For example, if the Serial Server is set
for 19200bps, XON/XOFF flow control, 8-bit characters, and odd parity,
the device's serial port must also be set to these parameters.
