14. Firmware Update
Each laser engraver is controlled by the CPU board. Signals that come from the
Computer are interpreted as commands which cause a certain sequence of
operations that are fullfilled. The way these commands are interpreted is strongly
influenced by the firmware.
Whenever we find a way to optimize the behaviour of the engraver there will be a
new release of the firmware, which can easily be updated by any user.
But be aware that with every firmware update you reset the
-
Engraver hours
-
Laser hours
-
Engraving time with plugged filters
-
Distance of travel X axis
-
Distance of travel Y axis
This means you loose a lot of information when these parameters are not noted
before updating (especially the amount of laser hours is important which will very
often be used to decide whether a replacement will be w arranty or non warranty).
Steps for updating the firmware
1.) Make sure you have the Firmware stored on Disk or in a directory in
uncompressed format. (Often the Trotec Support team will send you the files per
e-mail, which sometimes makes it necessary to compress them. In this case first
decompress them and store them in any directory)
2.) Switch your laser engraver off and then on again, to make sure there is no
communication between the two.
3.) Open the manager (but do not build up a connection)
4.) Select Settings>Update Firmware and enter the path name where you have
saved the Firmware files.
5.) Wait until the download has been finished.
In some cases this way of updating the Firmware does not work (e.g. you have used
a corrupt file for updating and the manager can not transfer the data a second time)
In this case you have to update the Firmware by connecting directly to the CPU
board. To do this you need:
