MEASURING VOLTAGE
Read the voltage on the display.
If the meter is set to
Auto
, it may display overrange
OL
momentarily while it is
selecting the proper measurement range. If the meter display indicates overrange
OL
for longer than 2 seconds, disconnect the test probes from the circuit immedi-
ately. An overrange condition exists. Do not attempt to measure this voltage. It
exceeds the capability of the meter.
If you have set the range manually, and it displays
OL
, you may have selected a
range that is too low for the voltage to be measured. In this case, press the RANGE
button to select a higher range, and attempt to measure the voltage again. If you
are already set to the highest range, the voltage exceeds the measurement capa-
bility of the meter and should not be measured.
If you have set the range manually, and the displayed value is less than “400”, a
more accurate reading may be obtained by selecting a lower range. Disconnect
the probes from the circuit and use the RANGE button to select the next lower
range (you’ll need to press the button repeatedly to get to the next lower range).
Reconnect the test probes to the circuit and observe the reading on the LCD dis-
play. If the RANGE is already on the lowest selection (i.e. 400mV), no greater
measurement resolution can be obtained.
