RS-422 Communications
The following RS-422 Communications troubleshooting procedures will assist the user in what may be
the possible cause for indicated error message. Refer to Table 4–9.

•
If using manufactured cable, verify Radio cable is connected fully
•
If using Field Termination Board, verify wiring is correct.
•
Verify battery pack voltage is at least 11.9 Vdc.
•
Verify that ID number and security code are correct.
Power to transceiver can be provided from the
µ
FLO’s power supply. This allows
µ
FLO to switch external power to transceiver. Switching is accomplished using a
12VDC switch line connected to the 2100888-003 field termination board TB1-7
SWVBATT (WHT). Refer to Measuring SWVBATT Transceiver Supply Switch
Voltage. If this option is used, TB1-6 (V-BATT) is not used.
Procedure Instructions
In the following procedure, the common name for a component or it’s jumper number if available
(abbreviated J) or part is followed by a number in parentheses. This refers to the call out item number
referenced on each drawing.

Switch Voltage
Check
µ
FLO transceiver SWVBATT supply voltage. Refer to the following
Measuring SWVBATT Transceiver Supply voltage for procedures:
Using a digital voltmeter, measure transceiver SWVBATT DC supply voltage
between the 2100888-003 field termination board TB1 (Figure 4–5, Item 20)
connector terminals. Voltage should be greater than 11.9 Vdc.
TB1-5 (GND [BLK]) and TB1-7 (SWVBATT [WHT])
The transceiver SWVBATT measured DC voltage should pulse every four (4)
seconds for a time duration of approximately 350 milliseconds. Voltage must
be at least 11.9 Vdc. (Baud rate dependent 350 max = 1200 Baud.)
Voltage may be difficult to measure because of the short 350 millisecond time
duration.
Measuring Battery
Pack Voltage (V-
BATT)
Using a digital voltmeter, measure transceiver V-BATT power supply voltage
between the 2100888-003 field termination board TB1 (Figure 4–5, Item 20)
connector terminals. Switched voltage should be greater than 11.9 Vdc.
TB1-5 (GND [BLK]) and TB1-6 (V-BATT)
Voltage may be difficult to see using a digital voltmeter. It can be seen using an
oscilloscope.
Verify voltage by continuously polling
µ
FLO from CCU.
