Communications Overview
These troubleshooting procedures are applicable only to a
µ
FLO with an installed radio communication
unit. The three basic types of radio communications that can be used between the
µ
FLO and a radio
receiver, are:
•
RS-232 Communications
•
RS-485 Communications
•
RS-422 Communications
For specific wiring and pin configurations, please see Figure 4–5.
Before removal or installation of either the communication interface cables or the
Field Termination card, it is important that you disconnect the external battery
charger and main
µ
FLO battery pack cable connectors from main electronics board.
Refer to Figure 4–5.
Setting Up
Communication
After installation of communication equipment and before placing the
communication system into operation, the user should note the following:
•
Verify cables, radio and Termination Board if used are correctly installed.
•
Check
µ
FLO identifier (ID). Log the ID for future reference.
•
Log
µ
FLO access security code, baud rate, listen cycle, protocol and interface
for future reference.
The following helpful hints aid the user after communication equipment has been
installed and setup:
•
When communication equipment is powered on,
µ
FLO displays the
→
after it
recognizes the
µ
FLO ID and is responding.
•
Check baud rate of
µ
FLO transmission and LISTEN time settings. The baud
rate and time settings can be changed when PCCU is in ENTRY mode. Default
settings are 1200 baud and listening time is 4 seconds and communications
interface is turned off.
RS-232 Communications
The following RS-232 Serial Communication troubleshooting procedures will assist the user in what may
be the possible cause for indicated error message. Refer to Table 4–7.

•
If using manufactured cable, verify Radio cable is connected fully
•
If using Field Termination Board, verify wiring is correct.
•
If using Field Termination Board, verify jumper setting is correct.
•
Verify battery pack voltage is greater than 11.9 Vdc.
•
Verify ID number and security code are correct.
