8. Operation
a) Inserting/changing the battery
•
Insert the battery before using the multidetector for the first time. Change the battery when the battery level
indicator (C) appears on the LCD display.
•
Remove the battery compartment cover (12) on the back of the multidetector.
•
Insert a 9 V/DC 6LR61 battery (not included) into the battery compartment. Ensure that you observe the plus/+ and
minus/- signs. The strap should be placed under the battery and then looped over the top to allow you to remove
the battery easily at a later date.
•
Replace the battery compartment cover.
You can also use a 9 V rechargeable battery to power the multidetector. If you are using a 9 V rechargeable
battery, note that the actual voltage supplied is approximately 8.4 V.
b) Turning the multidetector on and off
Before turning on the multidetector, check that the sensor (9) is dry. If necessary, wipe the sensor dry using
a lint-free cloth.
If the multidetector has been subjected to a change in temperature, allow it to reach room temperature
before turning it on.
• Press the on/off (3) button to turn on the multidetector. Before using the multidetector, check that the metal detection
feature is working properly. If there are no metal objects, magnetic fields or other objects made of detectable
materials within range of the sensor (9), the multidetector will beep and the green LED (5) will turn on.
•
If the sensor detects an object, the red LED (6) will turn on and you will hear a long beep. If the red LED flashes
and you hear several beeps, the multidetector needs to be calibrated. See section "c) Calibrating the multidetector"
for more information.
• To switch off the multidetector, press the on/off button.
• If no buttons are pressed and no objects are detected for 5 minutes, the multidetector will switch off automatically
to conserve battery power.
c) Calibrating the multidetector
• Press the on/off button (3) to turn on the multidetector.
•
Hold the multidetector in front of you away from metal and wooden objects and magnetic fields.
•
Hold down the metal/AC voltage detection button (1) until the multidetector stops beeping and the green LED (5)
turns on.
• This indicates that the multidetector was successfully calibrated.
