Section 8: Plumbing System
Operation:
Normal Mode
operation allows water to flow into
the water heater. Hot water bypass valve handle
(B) should point toward the water heater. Cold
water bypass valve (A) should point toward the
water heater.
Bypass Mode
operation diverts the flow of water
around the water heater keeping water out of the
water heater. Hot water bypass valve (B) should
point away from water heater and inline with the
hot water output. Cold water bypass valve (A)
should point away from the water heater and in-
line with the cold water supply.
Sanitizing the Plumbing System
When to sanitize:
When your RV is new.
At the beginning and end of each sea-
son.
When the water system becomes con-
taminated or every three months of
use.
How to sanitize
1. Turn both the electric and LP gas water
heater switch(s) to OFF. Set the 2-valve
water heater bypass to
BYPASS
. Refer to the
2-Valve Water Heater Bypass
section.
2. Level the RV and drain the fresh water system. See
Draining the Fresh Water System.
3. Close the low point drain valves and the fresh water tank drain valve. Low point drains
for hot and cold water lines are located inside the basement access cover.
4.
Full system canister water filter (if so equipped):
Remove the canister; take the filter
out of the canister, then reattach the empty canister. There may be water valves at the
canister to turn water off coming in to and leaving the canister filter.
5. Prepare a chlorine solution using 1/4 cup of household bleach (sodium hypochlorite
solution) to one gallon (3.785 liters) of water in a container. Prepare one gallon of
solution for every 15 gallons of tank capacity. This will result in a residual chlorine
concentration of 50 ppm in the water system.
If a 100-ppm concentration is required, use ½ cup of household bleach with one gallon
of water to prepare the chlorine solution. One gallon of the solution should be used for
each 15 gallons of tank capacity.
NOTE:
Valve E is the suction (syphon) valve that has the clear hose
attached to it for siphoning in antifreeze, sanitizer or fresh water from an ex
-
ternal container. Valve D (if equipped) is a shutoff valve for the fresh water
tank. Both valves are typically located at the water pump
