SSCA Sample Holder Description

This sample holder (SSCA - Sample Spinner in Controlled Atmosphere) can be used to analyze pow-
der sample in reflection mode within a confined environment. The sample holder SSCA is dedicated
to isolate a powder sample from external environment. It is not dedicated to heating the sample. It is
not dedicated to applying the pressure higher than 2 bar.

The cell is sealed for dynamic vacuum and low pressure. Powder is disposed in a dedicated crucible,
containing a magnet. The main core of the sample holder, below the crucible, contains a device able
to  rotate  the  magnet  (with  lateral  polarity).  Then,  when  crucible  is  set  on  the  sample  holder,  it  can
rotate by friction. This principle allows a total sealing of the spinning mechanism.

A cover equipped with an X-ray transparent window is fixed by 8x M4 screws. The window is com-
posed by a strapping of a Kapton window on a Viton O-ring,and by a stainless-steel belt. This makes
the easy replacement of the window. Two rapid connectors allow to connect to the gas system, like
vacuum pump of flushing gas system, under certain conditions.

SSCA can be introduced in a glove box to allow preserving sample:

Against external reactant: oxidation, moisture...,
Because of sample toxicity (asbestos…),
To perform in-situ reaction with gas flow (external).

Dimensions of the sample holder: L = 193 mm, W= 70 mm, H = 150 mm

1- 30 mm diameter axis,

2- Incidence angle indicator,

3- Connector for the 12V power supply for spinning,

4- Cover with cylindrical window and gas connectors, fixed
with 8x M4 screws,

5- cylindrical Kapton window.

6- Factory secured screws for height alignment,

7- mount of sample holder for maintaining horizontal,

8- sample powder on crucible.

SERVICE!

Do not touch the securing screws (6). This operation has to be done by service only.
