Engine Maintenance

2. Place a clamp on the engine to expansion tank
upper hose to prevent coolant from flowing
through it from the expansion tank to the
thermostat housing. Be careful to avoid
damaging the hose when clamping it.
3. Open petcock on thermostat housing and
remove the expansion tank cap.
4. Begin adding coolant into expansion tank.
Add coolant slowly to allow air to escape
from radiator and through jiggle pin in the
thermostat. If coolant is added too fast, the
expansion tank will fill before the air has had
time to escape and coolant will flow from the
expansion tank inlet hose back toward the
thermostat trapping air in the system.
5. When coolant begins to flow out of the
petcock, close the petcock.
6. Remove the clamp from the engine to
expansion tank upper hose.
7. Continue to slowly fill the expansion tank
until the coolant level is at the top of the filler
neck then reinstall pressure cap.
8. Add coolant to the overflow bottle until it is
about 1" above the Full Cold line and reinstall
cap. The overflow bottle will be about ½ full.
9. Operate unit and cover condenser to make
sure the engine temperature gets above 162 F
(72 C). Check the engine temperature with the
Gauges Menu screen on the premium HMI or
with a laser thermometer. This will ensure that
the thermostat is open and any air trapped in
the cylinder head will be purged by the water
pump circulation.
10. Check for bubbles coming from the bottom of
the dip tube in the overflow bottle. If bubbles
pass through the dip tube then the unit has
enough coolant and pressure to open the
expansion tank cap and the system will
continue to completely fill itself during
normal operation. If bubbles are present then
the fill process is complete. If no bubbles are
present proceed to step 11.
11. Allow unit to cool. Do not open the expansion
tank cap on a hot unit.
12. Once the unit is cool remove the expansion
tank cap.
•
If the expansion tank is full, proceed to
step 14.
•
If the expansion tank is not full, open the
petcock on the thermostat housing. Add
coolant to the expansion tank until coolant
goes out the petcock. Close the petcock
and continue to fill the expansion tank
until it is full.
13. Replace the expansion tank cap and repeat
steps 9 and 10.
14. Add coolant to the overflow bottle until it is
about 1" above the Full Cold line and reinstall
cap. The overflow bottle will be about ½ full.
