NOVA OPERATION 35
BASS CHASE PLAYBACK
The Nova is fitted with an internal microphone (and an external audio input) with a filter sensitive to bass music frequencies.
Signals derived from the bass filter are used in Bass Chase mode in a number of ways to change the playback mode of Chases.
Depending on the setting of the Speed Master and the Bass mode LED, a bass beat can step a Chase, stop a Chase, burst a
Chase, or modulate the speed or intensity of a Chase. The Up and Down fade times of Bass Chases are also modified by setting
the Fade Master to Snap, Comet, or Fade Chase in a similar fashion as described for normal Chase playback.
SETTING BASS CHASE MODES
You can change the Chase playback mode from normal Chase to either Slow Bass or Fast Bass Chase as follows:
1
Hold [RECORD] then press [STEP/STOP]: after a Mimic flash the Bass Mode LED in the Page display will change
to On. This is Bass Chase Slow.
2
Repeat Step 1: after a Mimic flash the Bass Mode LED in the Page display will Flash. This is Bass Chase Fast.
3
Repeat Step 1 a third time: after a Mimic flash the Bass Mode LED in the Page display will turn Off. This turns
Bass Mode Off, and returns to normal Chase mode.
By keeping the Record key down and pressing the Step/Stop key several times, you can move quickly through the different Chase
modes. Different settings of the Bass mode, Speed Master, and Fade Master alter the Chase playback as follows:
BASS RUN SLOW
If the Bass mode LED is On (Bass Slow), each bass beat of the music bursts the Chase at the speed set on the Speed Master.
The speed can be changed in the range of 120 BPM to 1200 BPM. The Chase direction is automatically reversed every 8 music
beats. The Fade Master setting changes the Chase Up and Down fade times as follows:
Snap
Up fade times are instant (up=0). Down fade times are the same as the Speed Master setting (dn=t).
Fade
Up fade times are the same as the speed setting (up=t). Down fade times are twice the speed setting (dn=2t).
Comet
Up fade times are the same as the speed setting (up=t). Down fade times are four times the speed setting (dn=4t).
BASS RUN FAST
If the Bass mode LED is Flashing (Bass Fast), each bass beat of the music stops the Chase. The Chase speed can be changed
in the range of 120 BPM to 1200 BPM. The Chase direction is automatically reversed every 8 music beats.
Snap
Up and Down fade times are instant (up=0, dn=0).
Fade
Up fade times are half the Speed Master setting (up=t/2). Down fade times are the same as the speed setting (dn=t).
Comet
Up fade times are instant (up=0). Down fade times are twice the speed setting (dn=2t).
