5-2. ENGINE TOP END

Measure piston pun. See the following

illustration for the proper measurement

positions.

▪

Replace piton pin if diameter is out of

specifications.

▪

Measure inside diameter of connecting rod

small end bushing.

▪

Replace connecting rod if diameter of

connecting rod small end is out of

specifications.

▪

Compare measurements to obtain the

connecting rod/piston pin clearance.

Piston Installation

▪

For installation, reverse the removal

procedure.

▪

Apply engine oil on the piston pin.

▪

Insert piston pin into piston and connecting

rod.

▪

For each cylinder, install piston with punched

arrow on piston dome is pointing toward the

exhaust side of the engine.

CAUTION

Mark on top of position must show to both
cylinders exhaust side.

▪

Install NEW piston circlip, and double check

the C-clip is seating at the groove..

NOTICE:

Always replace disassembled piston

circlip(s) by new ones. Place a rag on cylinder

base to avoid dropping the circlip inside the

engine.
