Electronic Mail

6. Electronic Mail.
If you have an account with an Internet Service Provider that provides POP3
(Post Office Protocol
3) or IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) capability, you will be able to exchange email
messages with any other Internet user.
The Internet TV Set-Top Box supports up to four different Email
accounts. On pressing the E-mail button in the Main Menu or the
Email key on the remote, the unit will log into your email account.
If more than one account has been configured, the unit will display
a list of the available accounts.
Upon selecting one, the unit will display the following login dialog:
The fields will already contain the necessary information, and
selecting the OK button will log you into the account. If you want
to change the current settings for the account, you have to
provide the following data:
Server Name
- is the Internet address of your mail server
User ID
- is your mail account on that server
Password
- is your password
The
Save Password
check box is used to determine whether the unit has to keep the password
in memory: if it is checked, next time you want to log into the same account, you will not have to
type in your password again. If, on the other hand, you want to prevent anyone else from
accessing your own email account, you want to leave the box un-checked. If you leave the box
unchecked, you will have to type in your password the next time you want to log in.
Upon entering the email account, the Internet TV Set-Top Box will check for expired messages
,
i.e. messages that have been on the server longer than specified by your Internet Service
Provider. Expired messages are automatically deleted from the server and the remaining will be
loaded. Messages are loaded in groups of maximum 15, which is the number of email entries that
one single screen can contain.
Every email entry in this screen will show the names
of the sender, the date the message was sent, and
its subject. Newer messages are placed at the top of
the list; the status line at the bottom of the screen
will always display the number of the currently
highlighted message and the total messages of the
mailbox. If you have more message entries than the
screen can display, you can scroll to the bottom of
the messages with the scroll keys on the remote and
more messages will be loaded. Once the messages
are in memory, though, they are kept there until you
hang-up the phone line, and moving between the
message pages will not cause the unit to reload
them.
The lower part of the screen displays a new menu bar:
Log-in
- Displays the window with the list of available Email accounts
, as described before.
