Troubleshooting
Not Releasing:
•
Voltage at brake too low
•
Air gap too large
•
Friction disc worn
•
Faulty magnet coil
•
Faulty wiring
Not Holding:
•
Faulty brake switch
•
Faulty controller
•
Contaminated brake
Braking while driving:
•
Faulty wiring to the brake coil
•
Faulty brake coil
Brake Adjustment
Measure the air gap between the magnet coil and the
pressure plate. The air gap should be approximately 0.010 - 0.012 inches (0.25 - 0.30 mm).
1: Remove the brake assembly from the motor.
2: Loosen the assembly screws.
3: Turn each adjusting screw in or out as required. Each screw must be turned the same amount.
4: Tighten the assembly screws and check the air gap in several places around the brake.
5:
Repeat as needed until within specification.
6:
Tighten assembly screws to torque listed in the Hardware Torque table at the end of this section.
7: Reinstall the brake on the motor. Brake mounted on end of motor
Brake Test
1: Unplug the motor brake from the vehicle harness.
2: Connect a 24 volt, 5 Amp DC power supply to the brake and measure the current to the brake coil.
3: The brake should release and the current to the coil should be about 1.8 Amps.
This section is one section of a complete service
manual. Before starting any procedure, read all
warnings and instructions that are located in the
Service Guidelines chapter.
