SEEK COMPLETE
T his signal defines the d ire c tio n o f m o tio n o f the
re a d /w rite head w hen the Step line is pulsed. A n
open c irc u it o r lo g ic a l false defines the d ire c tio n as
“ o u t” . I f a pulse is applied to the Step lin e , the
re a d /w rite heads m ove aw ay fro m the center o f the
disk. I f th is lin e is tru e , the d ire c tio n is d e fin e d as
“ in ” , and the re a d /w rite heads m ove in to w a rd the
center o f the d isk.
Seek C om plete m ust be tru e p rio r to changing
directions and th e a p p lic a tio n o f a d d itio n a l step
pulses.
REDUCED WRITE CURRENT
T he Reduced W rite C u rre n t in p u t lin e is te r
m in a te d , b u t is n o t used in the T M 5 0 0 series drives.

Selecting the a p p ro p ria te ju m p e r b lo c k a t W 9
th ro u g h W 12 determines w h ich select lin e activates
the drive.

OUTPUT CONTROL SIGNALS
T he o u tp u t c o n tro l signals are drive n w ith an open
colle cto r o u tp u t stage capable o f sinking a m ax
im u m o f 40 m illiam peres in a tru e state, w ith a
m a xim u m voltage o f 0.4 v o lt measured at the
d rive r. W h e n the lin e d riv e r is in the false state, the
d rive r tra n sisto r is o f f , and the colle cto r c u to ff is a
m a xim u m o f 250 m icroam peres.

D riv e Select lines.
T he Seek C om plete signal goes tru e when the
re a d /w rite heads have settled on the fin a l tra c k at
the end o f a seek. R eading o r w ritin g should n o t be
attem pted w hen Seek C om plete is false.

2. 500 nanoseconds, m a x im u m , a fte r the tr a il

C om plete is false w hen po w e r is restored
and rem ains false u n til an a u to m a tic
re ca lib ra tio n is com pleted.
TRACK 0
T he T ra c k 0 signal indicates a tru e state o n ly w hen
the d riv e ’ s re a d /w rite heads are p o sitione d at T ra c k
0, the outerm ost d ata tra c k .
FAULT
The F a u lt signal is used to indicate a c o n d itio n ex
ists in the d rive th a t c o u ld cause im p ro p e r w ritin g
on the disk. W hen this lin e is tru e , fu rth e r w ritin g is
in h ib ite d , as are o th e r drive fu n c tio n s , u n til the
c o n d itio n is corrected.
T his c o n d itio n is caused b y either the + 1 2 v o lt o r
+ 5 v o lt supply d ro p p in g below the specified lim its ,
and o n pow er up u n til a successful re c a lib ra tio n se
quence is com pleted.

16.7 m illiseconds n o m in a l, to indicate the beginn
in g o f the tra c k . N o rm a lly , th is signal is false and
