Working with Dual-Channel & Multi-Reciter Subracks
The base station that you connect to can be part of a dual-channel or a multi-
reciter subrack. It may or may not have a PA or a PMU. The following gives
some guidance on how to use the Service Kit in these different situations.
Single-channel
Base Station
For a subrack with a PMU and a single reciter and PA, there are no special
considerations.
PMU
If present, the PMU is associated with reciter 1 (the right-most reciter in the
subrack, looking from the front). When the Service Kit is connected to another
reciter, it cannot monitor, configure, or diagnose the PMU. The Alarm Status
form will report ‘No PMU detected’ and other PMU alarm LEDs will be gray.
Power configuration settings (Configure > Base Station > Miscellaneous) are
editable, but have no effect. PMU control tests also have no effect.
Q
Disable the ‘No PMU detected’ alarm for reciters other than reciter 1.
Q
Make sure that any Task Manager actions involving the PMU are
programmed into reciter 1.
Q
If there is no PMU, disable the ‘No PMU detected’ alarm on all reciters.
PA
Receive-only base stations have no PA. The Alarm Status form will report ‘No
PA detected’ and other PA alarms will be gray. PA control tests have no effect.
Q
Disable the ‘No PA detected alarm (Configure > Alarms > Control). This
stops the control panel alarm LED flashing because of this alarm.
Fan alarms
Fan alarms work differently from other PA and PMU alarms. The control panel
is connected to fan rotation detect lines. If a fan ceases to turn, the control panel
detects this and passes an alarm to the reciter that is currently selected on the
control panel. The Service Kit cannot monitor fan alarms if it is connected to a
different reciter. In a similar way, diagnostic forms can only test and display the
state of the PMU and the PA fan if you are connected to reciter 1 and that reciter
is currently selected.
Q
Make sure that any Task Manager actions involving the fans are
programmed into reciter 1.
Q
Disable the ‘Fan failed’ alarm for any fan that is not fitted.
Q
Disable the PA ‘Fan failed’ alarm for all reciters, except (if it has a PA)
reciter 1.
Q
Disable the PMU ‘Fan failed’ alarm for all reciters, except (if there is a PMU)
reciter 1.
Q
We recommend that you select channel 1 on the control panel, so that
reciter 1 does not report false fan alarms because it cannot detect fan motion.
(Other reciters can be selected during on-site monitoring and diagnostics.)
If the reciters in the subrack have Ethernet system interface boards, fans can
be remotely monitored by connecting a Service Kit to reciter 1.
