8.4) LOWER THREAD PLACEMENT AND
TENSION ADJUSTMENT
8.4.1) Placement of Lower Thread
1) Basically, use a cotton thread (80# ~120#) as
the lower thread.
2) Placement of Lower Thread on Bobbin Case
①
Insert the bobbin properly wound with thread
into the bobbin case, pass the lower thread
through the opening on the bobbin case, and
then pull it through the thread guide.
As in the figure, check whether the bobbin
can spin by pulling up the thread.
②
Place the thread coming from the thread
guide on the bobbin case's lower thread
hanger. Cut the loose thread which is
longer than 3~4cm before inserting the
bobbin into the hook. This is to prevent the
entanglement of the lower thread when the
embroidery begins.
8.4.2) Adjustment of Lower Thread Tension
The lower thread tension is adjusted by the
adjusting screw of the tension spring on the bobbin
case. When the screw is turned clockwise, the lower
thread tension gets stronger. When the screw is
turned counterclockwise, the lower tension gets
weaker.

Proper rotating direction of the bobbin: When the thread is pulled while holding the bobbin
case with the left hand, the bobbin case shall rotate clockwise.
CAUTION
To determine the appropriateness of the lower thread tension, gently shake the bobbin
case up and down by holding the thread as in the figure. If the tension is proper, the thread
is supposed to be released due to the weight of the bobbin case. The proper strength of
thread release is 25~35g.
