Memory

Exercise extreme care when installing or removing DIMM modules to prevent
any possible damage.
Memory Support
T h e X 9 D R W - 3 F / i F s u p p o r t s u p t o 5 1 2 G B o f r e g i s t e r e d E C C
1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB size SDRAM in sixteen (16) DIMM slots
of up to DDR3 1600/1333/1066/800 MHz speed. See the following table for memory
installation.
Memory speed support is dependent on the type of CPU used on the board.
Installing Memory Modules
1. Insert the desired number of DIMMs into the memory slots, starting with
DIMM 1A. For best memory performance, please install memory modules
of the same type and same speed on the memory slots as indicated on the
tables below.
2. Insert each DIMM module vertically into its slot. Pay attention to the notch
along the bottom of the module to avoid installing incorrectly (see Figure 5-3).
3. Gently press down on the DIMM module until it snaps into place in the slot.
Repeat for all modules.
