3.3 Motherboard Components
Processor and Heatsink Installation
Follow the procedures in this section to install a processor (CPU) and heatsink onto the
motherboard mounted in the chassis.
Notes:
•
When handling the processor package, avoid placing direct pressure on the label area of
the fan.
•
When receiving a motherboard without a processor pre-installed, make sure that the plastic
protective socket cover is in place and none of the socket pins are bent; otherwise, contact
your retailer immediately.
•
Install the the processor into the socket and the motherboard into the chassis before
installing the CPU heatsink.
•
Use an Intel-certified multi-directional heatsink.
•
Refer to the Supermicro website for updates on CPU support.
