Chapter 3: Setup and Installation
Installing Memory
Begin by removing power from the system as described in Section 3.1. Follow the
memory population sequence in the table above.
1. Push the release tabs outwards on both ends of the DIMM slot to unlock it.
2. Align the key of the DIMM with the receptive point on the memory slot and with your
thumbs on both ends of the module, press it straight down into the slot until the
module snaps into place.
3. Press the release tabs to the locked position to secure the DIMM module into the
slot.
Caution:
Exercise extreme caution when installing or removing memory modules to prevent
damage to the DIMMs or slots.
Removing Memory
To remove a DIMM, unlock the release tabs then pull the DIMM from the memory slot.

Hard Disk Drive Installation
Hard disk drives are installed in “carriers” which are hot-swappable and can be removed
or replaced without powering down the blade unit they reside in. A blade module needs
a hard disk drive with an operating system installed to operate.
Caution:
To maintain proper airflow, both hard drive bays must have drive carriers inserted
during operation whether or not a drive is installed in the carrier.
To remove a hard drive carrier, do the following:
