With very few exceptions, all solar controllers are compatible with our Techno-Solis solarpanels.
The major considerations in selecting a control system should be:
•
reliability and proven track record,
•
availability of servicing should something go wrong,
•
conformity with local electrical and plumbing codes,
•
Compatibility with planned installation, i.e. 2-way valve systems often cause signifi cant heat
losses from night timecirculation if solar panels are at the same height, or below, the pool
and cannot drain when the system is off .
12.2 Typical Automatic Control System
Automatic control systems will turn on and off the Solar Heating System depending on avail-
ability of energy and the set temperature of the pool. Most controls operate a 2 or 3-way valve
to divert water to the solar panels.
The following describes a typical 3-way automatic control system, its components and opera-
tion (see fi gure 32).Always refer to the SUNDWARE catalog for the exact details of operation,
maintenance and installation.
Mount the automatic control system in a convenient location near the pump and existing pool
piping. In most pool confi gurations, the pump draws water from the skimmer and the main
drain. It then pushes water through the fi lter, the existing accessories (water treatment, conven-
tional heater, etc...) and back to the pool. Plumbing connections for the automatic solar control-
ler are made between the fi lter and the existing accessories, so that the solar heated water can
return to the pool via the existing accessories-if there is one (see fi gure 33).
