10.4  Installing the collectors above each other 

 

(installation height up to 20 m on tiled roof)

The following items are to be provided on site:

 

- For the lower row of collectors, materials in accordance with 

chapter 10.3.2 are required.

 

- The upper row of collectors requires three additional roof 

battens with the thickness of the existing roof battens and 
the length of the collector array, plus 12 zinc-plated nails (1.5 
x 20).

 

- Each collector in the upper row of collectors requires two 

zinc-plated nails (1.5 x 20).

When installing collectors above each other, intermediate flashing 
SOL AZ is required. Fit this at the transition point between lower 
and upper collector.

When collectors are arranged above each other, the additional 
roof battens for the lower row of collectors are fitted as described 
in the previous chapter.

Fit additional roof battens for the upper row of collectors 
spaced 400 mm apart, similar to the lower row of collectors 
(two battens at the bottom and one at the top at a distance of 
2080 mm from the inside edge of the mounting bracket).

Install the lower row of collectors as described in the previ-
ous chapter.

Drill a hole for each collector for fitting at every ten fixing 
points ( 4.5).

Only secure the four screws at the lower end of the collector. 
The six screws at the upper end are tightened when the in-
termediate flashing is secured.

Secure the lead flashing on to the two additionally installed 
battens for the upper row of collectors. The lead flashing 
should overlap the battens and the already fitted collectors 
(lower row of collectors) by 100 mm.

Install the upper row of collectors in the same way as the 
lower row. Start again with the right-hand collector array 
end strip.

Fit the centre side flashing and the cover holder with the col-
lector on the battens. For this, use the six fixing points at the 
upper end of the collector of the lower row of collectors. The 
side flashing is only to be fitted once on the left and once on 
the right of the collector array, not on each collector.
