programming of a fixed IP address to each camera in a given
installation, together with a software implementation that connects
using the IP address. All three issues can be resolved by means
of the user-defined identifier (
DeviceUserID
). These methods are
discussed in the following sections.
6.2 Using Persistent Properties
Persistent properties are GenICam
TM
properties that are perma-
nently stored in the flash memory of the StarForm TM Swift-G 3D
camera. Two user-programmable persistent properties are avail-
able that can be used to aid in identifying and connecting to
StarForm
TM Swift-G 3D cameras.
6.2.1 User Identifier
The DeviceUserID GenICam TM property is a user-configurable
free text field which can be set to any string of up to 16 characters
in length. For widest compatibility, it is recommended to restrict
entries to ASCII-encoded strings using codes 32 to 126 (decimal)
only.
This value is stored persistently to the flash memory of the camera
immediately upon any change.
6.2.2 Persistent IP Configuration
The GigE Vision protocol sets out the mechanisms by which a com-
pliant camera should determine its IP configuration on a network.
One such mechanism is a persistent IP configuration, stored within
the camera.
The persistent IP configuration mechanism provides a means to
specify an IP address, subnet mask, and optional gateway, that the
StarForm
TM
Swift-G 3D camera will use by default upon start-up.
Once suitable values for these parameters have been programmed
to the camera, it is necessary to explicitly select this mode of oper-
ation by means of the
GevCurrentIPConfigurationPersistentIP
GenICam
TM
property.
The steps to use a persistent IP configuration on a typical network
are as follows:
1. Set the
GevPersistentIPAddress
property to the required
IP address, for example
192.168.1.139
. Doing so will imme-
diately store this value in the camera.
